nose cone id
« on: August 21, 2010, 08:17:34 PM »
Going old school and putting a reduction box trans in the baja and would like to know how to identify which nose cone is on it so that I put a beetle one on it the first time before installing it.
Thanks Andy

111 or 113 = Bug
211 = Bus

The Bus nose cone does not work on 61 and later Beetles.
However, if you're installing a full synchro gearbox into a 60 or earlier, you must use a Bus nose cone.

Got the trans in for a test fit and all went well, shifted well, everything fit. So we pulled the trans out and I painted all the mounts and all the nuts, bolts and washers. After the paint was dry installed the trans and tightened everything up, mounted solid and now the damn thing wont shift into all the gears. Should have changed the hockey stick as this one has had a few holes drilled into it and now none of them work. Oh Well at least it looks good in the garage. Maybe I'll paint the pedals........

When you use the Bus nose cone, you must use the Bus hockey stick.
Maybe the hockey stick you initially tested the gearbox's fit was the Bus one, and you changed it for a Beetle one??

Its still the bus hockey stick, I should have changed it when I had it all apart, so now I'll have to pull it out and do it.

Bus hockey stick goes with Bus nose cone.  Bug with Bug.

Are you sure you have a Bus hockey stick?

I dont know for sure as its the one that came with the transaxle when I picked it up with some other parts. What is the big visual differance between the two?
