68' Bug Shifter Linkage Binding
« on: November 14, 2005, 04:05:51 PM »
Hey anyone know how many spots on the shifter linkage Is there that can bind?  (On a 68' bug)

How many different spots can the linkage be inspected from? Shifter and rear frame head?  Is there another inspection hole in between the two ?
The shifter feels like it is dragging in all gears.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know .

Thank you
Chris

There is one more but not much use unless you want to remove the shift tube .I t is a t the front between the torsion tubes.I would  remove the gear shift and using a small mirror look up the tunnel ( you could look from the rear as well) The tube goes through at least one support.(or ot would fall down).it could be binding there .Clean out and grease up the gear shift end and shift tube. does it go away if you loosen off the rear shift tube coupler.? Does the hockey stick move freely and easily through all gears? Is your tranny mount and nose cone okay? Have you done work to it specificaly ...thinking bent shift rod ( hockey stick ) over looked if so.....Remember to mark the shifter location and the coupler ( in relationship to hockey stick)on some you have a pin or bolt you can remove ( instead of the set screw on the h/stick end)  Good luck to ya Chris.....hope this helps ya  [_[
