3 rib questions
« on: January 16, 2011, 01:10:31 PM »
hi. first post. and not very v.w. savvy.... i have 2.. 3 ribs transmissions. they are a bit different. i  do know they are bus. and "one" is going into a manx clone, that  i am doing. what are there ages? what is the difference between them?  here is what i have.tranny #1/  ser.no. is 002-301-173. there ia a number 3 stamped above the serial number.  tranny#2/ ser no.002-301-103 B. there is a number 4 above it. what does the letter B stand for? the most obvious difference is that # 2 has 2 electical connections coming from it and #1 has only one. i believe that one is for the back up light, what is the second set for...gear ratio's the same?  any/all info is appreciated. thanks in advance.. derek

is 002-301-173. ........... no.002-301-103 B. ......
Those are just the part numbers of the empty trans cases.  Tells nothing about what's within.
You need to find the trans code.  It is a series of letters and numbers that are stamped into the casting.
