Oh, I'd love to see all the vw's and meet vw people - alas, it's the same day as the motorcycle toy run which we'll be doing on the scoots (besides, the Ghia is a looooong ways away from being on the road).  I wonder if anyone would mind us turning up on the vespas at Spanish Banks to take a look?  Cheers and have a fun drive!

the plan...

meet at clinton park (on slocan @ 1st ave. in east van) at 1030am on sunday october 5th 2008.

cruise starts at 11am sharp!!!

please remember...this isnt a race...this is a casual cruise. speeds will range between 15-40mph and we will be cruising in 2nd or 3rd gear for the most part.

most importantly, please respect the vehicle in front of you, behind you and beside you!!! this means no tailgating, no hard stops, no abrasive manouvers and no racing!!!

we will not lose any cars and we will be waiting for those that get caught at lights or stuck in traffic. so take it easy and have fun!!! :)

the route...

head west on 1st ave,
turn right on victoria drive,
turn left on venables st,
venables becomes prior st,
prior st becomes the dunsmuir viaduct (pass gm place and stay in the left lane),
turn left on cambie st,
turn right on west georgia st,
continue through downtown and stay in the right lane as we approach stanley park,
enter stanley park and turn right at the round-about,

pull over so everyone can regroup (5-10 minutes)

continue on stanley park drive through stanley park,
after awhile there will be a sharp left 120degree turn that leads to an uphill climb,
stay in the left lane on the hill and at the top of the hill merge left onto stanley park road to get to the stanley park causeway (highway 99, the lions gate bridge),
please be carefull when merging onto the causeway,
cross lions gate bridge,
follow the "99 west vancouver" sign,
merge left onto marine drive,
turn left on 13th st and enter ambleside park,

20-30 minute pit stop/washroom break/photo op/leg stretch/bulls#!t session,

leave ambleside park and turn right onto marine drive,
follow signs to lions gate bridge/vancouver,
merge right onto lions gate bridge,
stay in the right lane on lions gate bridge,
very shortly after the bridge there will be an exit on the right (this is stanley park road),
take this exit (right) onto stanley park road,
turn left on stanley park drive,

pull over so everyone can regroup (5-10 minutes),

continue through stanley park,
stanley park drive becomes beach ave,
stay straight and beach ave becomes pacific st,
turn right onto burrard st bridge,
stay in the right lane,
merge right after the bridge onto cornwall ave,
cornwall ave becomes point grey road,
turn left on alma st,
turn right on west 4th ave,
stay in the right lane,
turn right on northwest marine drive (towards spanish banks),
enter spanish banks and park,
pit stop/washroom break/photo op/leg stretch/bulls#!t session, etc... 8)

here is a link to google maps with the starting location if you need a visual...

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=clinton+park,+vancouver+bc&ie=UTF8&ll=49.273741,-123.050737&spn=0.008932,0.017853&z=15&iwloc=A

as far as food goes at spanish banks...i'm not sure if the concession is open. if people want to bring a packed lunch or bbq...that would be cool...or after hanging out for awhile we could always go up to the white spot on broadway & larch (10 minutes from spanish banks) for a bite. or of course we're open to suggestions if anyone has any!!!

remember...the name of the game is fun!!! so come on out and have at 'er in your acvw!!! 8)
