Engine Terminology
« on: January 02, 2006, 09:34:44 PM »
What do these terms mean?

.5mm align bore? Is this from the boring of the the block to 94mm?

1.0mm thrust cut? is this a cut at the flywheel side?

If the last is correct, do I have to use an oversize seal and what would this seal be called and what size should it be?

Align bore is enlarging all the bearing saddles to correct for case warpage, bearings are available in sizes to deal with this, just make sure all the saddles are cut the same amount, depends who did it, Iv'e seen VW Canada rebuilds that didn't touch #4. You would need two different sets of bearings to deal with that.
As for the thrust you need bearings with an o/s thrust as well, same seal as stock.
