Engine build saga continues................
« on: December 05, 2011, 10:06:39 AM »
So I bought a bunch of HP VW engine parts a couple of years ago and I still don't have it back from the builder. Now the latest problem is when he torques down the flywheel it compresses the oil seal so much that the engine locks and won't turn over ?????
Anybody have a clue what the hell is going on ? I have a nice big CIP-1 order that should be at my door step in the next 24h with a different flywheel that I will drop off to him and if after that I give up.

Here is a list of the parts.....................
Twin 40 Italian Webers (also set of Spanish 44s )
Bug Pack intakes and a set of polished CSPs
Bug Pack Linkage and CB Performance
90.43 Mahle Pistons and Cyl.
Chromoly H-beam con rods
SCAT VOLKSTROKER 111 78MM COUNTERWEIGHT NEW CAST CRANK
Scat Chromoly Push rods
Scat Chromoly Gland Nut
Scat Chrome Pulley bolt
Scat BRAND - COMPLETE PERFORMANCE CAM KIT C-135
Scat silicone rear oil seal
Scat Chrome valve covers
Bruck Forged lightened flywheel
Empi Chromoly Head bolts
Hi-Flow OIL PUMP
Chrome engine dress up kit
Chrome Pulleys
New Alternator

SIGNED VERY VERY FRUSTRATED IN KELOWNA

I assume he already set the endplay before the seal was installed and it turned fine then?

Hmmmm..... I guess the next step is to measure the snout on the flywheel and see it's too short, unless the seal isn't going into the case fully.

Check the fillet on the fly wheel, the Bruck fly wheels have a large transition from the flywheel seal surface to the main body of the fly wheel.
Compare the stock flywheel to the Bruck and you will see what I mean. check your shims at the fly wheel  and also check that the flywheel seal is installed correctly.

We will see if you nailed it, I should mention whoever figures this out gets to cruze around driving the SPEEDSTER with me next summer at the GREAT CANADIAN downtown seeking Hookers and Blow.

He has the new flywheel now and I should know by tomorrow afternoon in the event that doesn't work a local machine shop said they will cut the flywheel down to fit.

Hey Rick, I'm very happy for ya. It's been a struggle to get this far but now you can see the light. Now it's just a matter of finishing all the little details that will make your project a success. All other speedsters better watch out! :cool2:

Is it a new cam and lifters? I sure hope he ran it in for the recomended 20min before letting it idle like that. Sounds nice.

New everything and he had it running a few times over the weekend before I got there yesterday. As far as the 20min. thing I'll ask him but he's been building engines since before we were all sperm so I sure hope he knows what he's doing   :hum:

And with some help from my Kelowna buddies I might be able to get this beast on the road by SPRING........2012 !!!!!!!
