What year was the first of the Ball joint front end in the Type 1?  Also was it a transition year where they had both like so many other things.  The deluxes get the new the standards get the old?

Thanks Matt... that's what I thought but wasn't 100%.  If '65 was the oddball year I should be off to the races.  Found a front end off a '66 but haven't seen it in person yet.

Keep in mind the bulkhead between the two is different. If your 65 has a kingpin front end you won't be able to just bolt up a ball joint.

Thanks  Matt.  Knew that already but I appreciate the knowledge.  Would that piss a guy off not knowing.  I'm looking into a new floor as well.  As much as I'd like to keep the og floor an upgrade is inevitable.  Likely a '68 or perhaps the matching '66 pan to go with the front end.  We'll see how the ball bounces.  Having another pan will give me the ability to keep driving while I do the repairs and changes to the donor.
