1 inch tranny raise?

hey has anyone every done a 1 inch raise on a trans? ive been thinking about doing this but i just wanted to know if even with a 1 inch raise if that makes me have to run the shift rod out of the tunnel?

no, but I had to clearance the tunnel opening to keep it from rubbing/binding

What year is your pan? 
If your pan is a 61 or later, get yourself a 61-67 Bus nose cone and hockey stick. That will keep the shift rod in the stock location.

Anyone know how much a 1" tranny raise will lower a beetle? Also If I get a kit such as this http://www.vwparts.net/RL52-900-101.html does anyone know what else has to be done to a 56 beetle pan to acomplish this?

A tranny raise doesnt lower the car, it just reduces the angle of the axles and the camber of the wheels after you lower the rear of the car by adjusting the spring plates

Right..sorry I will word this better. Once the springplates have been adjusted, does anyone know how much a 1" trans raise will be lower the car before encurring Camber?

I think what Chris is asking is with a 1" tranny raise and dropped 2 splines if that will reduce the camber significantly. I think he is worried about extensive premature wear on the tires.

I want to know if a 1" raise will be worth the money/work involved - how much lower will that get me - 1" at the trans = how much lower at the wheels without incurring camber. I am pretty sure it would be more that an inch right? With the camber I am concerned with safety and tire wear (family will be cruising in this).

when you raise the tranny you raise the engine, as well the exhaust, the shelves in the engine compartment will no longer line up, you will likely have to clearance the tranny in the parcel tray, lots of things involved, go thru the pictures in this gallery http://www.1976bus.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=17 starting at page 3 you can see what I had to do with mine.

bumping this thread as i've searched TS and KCW and have not been able to find an answer.

this is for an IRS setup

i have the engine / trans out as well as the cradle and was wondering if i fabbed up a 1" cradle lift - would i need to worry about lifting the nose cone end?

The way i see it, 1" is not very much and looking at the shape of the shiftrod end and connector - looks like it won't be a problem.  I am trying to raise my exhaust (T4 engine - bottom exit) because i just lowered the car quite a bit more.

does that make sense?

Keep in mind a raise can add other issues... Making new tin or a way to seal the engine comp. clearance to the engine lid ( depending on style of cooling)

Bowden tube issues etc. not saying its a bad thing just to keep in mind a few other things may need attention.

i think i have all the other stuff sorted out in my head. 

i have to make new sealing tin anyway and hood clearance is already sorted out.

have you done this before Geoff? (the 'tilt' lift, i mean)

Contact my friend who did this on his 57 Bonneville salt racer (IRS pan). He did a 3" raise which is a lot more then you are planning but he may be able to give some pointers. You can see his build on the Samba under the oval window section. His user handle is slalombuggy.
