WTB: Early Beetle Parts
« on: January 26, 2015, 03:44:50 PM »
Here's a running list of things I'm looking for:

1) Metal receiver for engine lid latch. (Mounts to apron, t-handle latch secures to it)
2) Horn Button 56-59 Beetle - With Ivory surround.
3) Fuel Tap handle - Short, original style is fine. I have nothing...and will have to get out of the car and crawl under to use the reserve setting.
4) Rear view mirror (inside) - Seems the triangle-bolt pattern on mine doesn't match the car.
5) Sunvisor - Ha! one-year only part for a '58. Don't really expect anyone is hiding one in their shop.

------

Found, and received: (Thanks Al H)
Headlight dimmer switch - Old, and working. The new plastic ones don't interest me.
Hood Prop, folding type. - I've got hinges, but nothing to hold my hood up. I'd prefer to not use a CDN special (hockey stick)
Wolfsburg Crest - Front Hood crest
Dust Caps - L & R for 46-65 Beetle

-Dave

but what if I'm back-dating a '74 super?

You know curved windows and towel-bar bumpers are all the rage right?

I was actually shopping for a '73 Super for my German Look build when I slipped with a number in Craigslist. The rest is, well, a lot of work in my garage :P

Aren't you supposed to have the welded tab, not the removable bolt on one Dave?

Car has the wrong rear apron. So yes, technically I should.

...but I don't. :P

I think so? It has the holes to bolt the 64-67 part in, will be interesting to see if it lines up with the decklid latch.

Aren't all pre-68 parts the same? hahahaha :D Oh VW, your advertising has led me so astray...

A fender comes off without dismantling half the car.
A new one goes on with just ten bolts. For $24.95 plus labor.
And a VW dealer always has the type of fender you need. Because that's the one type he has.
Most other VW parts are interchangeable too. Inside and out.

is the hole in the decklid round or rectangular with a curve on the top? I think round with straight sides is a "T" and the more pointed top hole is a push button latch?

Attempting to post photos with this post. Decklid has straight sides to hole, rounded top and bottom. Apron has two holes to mount 'something'.

I have a t-handle assembly that fits the Decklid.

you might have to modify the bolt on type to sit a little lower. I'm pretty sure the push button one has a different hook to grab latch that is taller than the "T" handle version. Maybe that's why the p.o. didn't put it on? No big deal, you can fab one up.
