New trick to cool engine
« on: September 11, 2015, 05:57:03 PM »
So at the great Canadian this year I meet up with Dave and getgoeff. We were talking about how I can cool my oil better. In my 70 slammed bus.   And everyone's opinion usually is get a external oil cooler which I did.

So while driving out my constant temp was around 220. I've been told that is the max temp I want.  So Dave Geoff and I came up with the idea that put a scoop under the bus and pipe it to the external cooler above the tranny.

Just to do a rough modify to see if it work. I used the front vent window tube under the seat and cut a thin piece out so it just fits perfect (it was the only thing I could think of that was long enough to cover the intire width).  And built a scoop under.the frame   I tested it on a really hot day and just ripped bettween 115-120 km.  for 50 km.  and my top temp is 200f.  Then I did a nice 105-110 km drive and it stayed right at 190 for the way back of 50km.  So yeah it works.  Now that I know it works im going to modify the scoop so it's tucked behind the frame with a flap hanging down to scoop up the air. Cool Huh

Nice idea. I need to get to grips with my temperatures too. I'll try something similar, so I can race you next year.

220 is money! Any cooler and won't reject condensation out of oil

It's seems to keep a good consistent temp no matter what speed at 220 - 230.  The cool air getting to the external fan above the tranny gets a constant flow above the cooler and sucks with the fan below.   I thenk that is what made the difference.  Engine cooling at 110km makes a huge difference for me at least.   I want to keep k-roc great engine for awhile.
