Well has anyone ever had a spark plug pop out of their head before? I was driving from Abbotsford to Langley got to 200th and I could hear that there was something wrong so I stopped on the side of the exit and I hear the worst thing i have ever heard come from my bus so I shut her down and I go back and I check the engine bay and what do I see but #3 spark plug with wire still connected I must add just sitting there on the side of the engine bay. So I take it out and I look at it, and it looked a fine burning really nice the gap was right on. So I thread it and then torque it and it goes in fine and then I start it and it just purred like it always does . (1600 single port)

i have heard of people with stripped threads and then it popping out.not tight enough when it was put in mabey?
nice that it was an easy fix:)

i would be more concerned about the torquing in a spark plug on a hot engine........

well i just made it snug i was thinking the same way u were thinking 76 when i was putting the plug back in the hot hole. i checked the plug out to day and it seems all good i think it just might have just vibrated loose or something like that. it was a great relief :rolleyes: .

Well when you think the problem is fixed it gets worse. It left me sitting on the port man . it plug would not go back in no matter what I did. So i am thinking of taking the engine out and rethreading the whole anyone ever done that before?

give us a call, we can get the proper time serts and the proper tap/reamer to repair it properly

can i do this with the engine in and is it a temp. fix or something that should last?

Had this happen when I had the stock 40 horse, before she cacked. I dropped the motor and was gonna pop the head but then talked to Peter Roberts (in Vic) and he had a nice little kit that is apparently way better than a helicoil. Just greased up the tap so the filings wouldn't fall into the cyl, chased it, threaded an insert into the head, with a little locktight and then had a tool that cut a new face into the aluminum for the spark plug gasket to seal on. I guess you could do it with the motor still in the vehicle. Someone in Van has to have this same set up.

I remember back in high school there was a kid in mechanic's class that had a '67 with the same problem, only this jerry rig kept a roll of tin foil in the back seat and every time the plug popped out he jumped out, wraped the threads and jamed it back in. lasted for a couple hundred k and then again and again, wouldn't want to know what kinda compression he was getting (if any) :mullet: :!: :!:

i'm not sure what type of plugs you're using, but it's worth it to invest in some bosch or ngk plugs too.
cheap plugs = cheap threads.
