I bought a complete air ride kit from Airkewld a while back. It was the most negative transaction I have ever experienced.  The only thing the company did efficiently was to take my money.  It took months to get the parts. They initially shipped the wrong kit despite having confirmed, in writing, the correct part numbers. As I tried to sort out the errors, they continued to mis-ship or short ship repeatedly.  They told me parts were shipped when in fact they weren't ( I have the emails and waybills to prove it). When I called them on their mistakes they became extremely hostile and refused to take responsability - blaming everyone from me to UPS to the Internet.

To their credit, they did finally send me a refund cheque for some of the shipping charges I had incurred sending back incorrect parts - and guess what?  The cheque bounced.

If I sound a bit bitter, It's because I still am. Never did get all the right parts. Had to source some out locally and had to fabricate some myself.
Finally gave up trying to sort things out with Airkewld.  Would never, ever deal with this Mickey Mouse outfit again.  If you're considering buying - do your homework first.

If the kit was designed for your old Beetle, there is no duty.  If the shipper states the contents are "antique auto parts", you won't be charged duty.  However, if they only ship by UPS, you're gonna get reamed up the ass by UPS.

Bro, I apologize for the negative transaction. Anytime some one places an order on the internet as you did, it automatically takes the money then. Just FYI. The kit was ordered as a 1969-1979 kit via the website. Some parts needed to be switched out and yes it could of taken some time, I apologize again. I did not purposefully do that. I do not know if this is Stephen sunderland or not, but if it was, HOSTILE, is not something in my vocabulary. I refused to take responsibility if some one orders one kit and then wants to make me look bad on here saying it was my fault. I will take the blame, because"the customer is always right". The check bounced, never mind bro, I have never bounced a check in my 4 years, I now know this is BS. Bro even though we did not have a great transaction and I think you are bending the story, I wish you and your family a merry Christmas. Take care.

Mr Airkewld if you are selling kits! You better have them ready before you advertise them! Otherwise don't take their money! I'd be pissed too!
The kits should arrive at the customers house within one week as a complete kit! I mean shit it should be idiot proof for the kind of money being charged.

IMHO, if you make kits to order than maybe you should consider taking a deposit on the order until such time as it is ready to ship. I know I would not be comfortable with the idea of sending you $2000 without it being shipped the next day, we live in a world of instant gratification and people need to keep pace with what people want.

If you are a one man show then all the power to you but you still have to deliver. Good Luck.

You shouldn't pay ANY duty at all.  If you were charged duty, you can apply for a refund.  Taxes are a different animal.  You have to pay 13% P+GST.

I don't understand why anyone would ship a partial kit.  Until the last part arrives, all the other parts are useless.

I appreciate your opinion Chris, In the early goings of my business, I was stiffed pretty hard, over 10k because I waited to ship 2 weeks later. No I make sure that it is good and usually ship with in 7-10 days. If you are thinking that all my kits take this long, they do not. He ordered the wrong kit, we had to replace some parts and so on. I understand his frustration, but I hope you all understand mine. Goods deliver all the time in decent time unless the powers that be say otherwise. Or unless some one makes a mistake. Take it easy.

Also, I agree with what you are saying about instant gratification, For what I do, I can not send them out any faster that I do already. When you sell as many as I do, it stacks up and if people pay on the web, there is no way to Hold their money, it automatically gets charged.

Please read my rebuttal to his post. He ordered the wrong kit and we needed to replace the parts that were fro a different year. I just found out about the duties recently and yes he can get a refund if he shows he paid for them originally and these were replacement parts.

A refund on duty does not hang on whether duty was already paid.  All antique auto parts (parts for cars older than 25 years) are DUTY FREE.  If ANY duty was paid for any reason, a refund is warranted.

I am not sure. Is that a Diss at Canada? Because only three people in the Country bought  off you?
I think a few of your comments ie; if you don't like my product don't buy it. What is that suppose to mean. I would be a little more politically correct with your Canadian customers as it could only improve your business with our stronger dollar. People have a right to an opinion and one thing I know for sure being a business owner... perception is reality...
It is your job as a business owner is to make sure the perception of you is correct. I have no ill feelings towards you or your company as i have never done business with you... I guess all I was trying to do was to add insight into the perception of your business. I hope you and yours all the best in the new year...
BTW I do think it was good on ya for coming in here and replying to all the threads

Definitely not a dis. I do not do that. 3 cats in CA took advantage of the free shipping deal and it was because of this posted ad. I just wanted to thank them.

That comment was directed at a specific person who chimed in, not anyone else. Typed words on the internet can have so many meanings, all my typed words are for the good, never the bad.

I can understand the opinion, but telling me to leave, is that really needed?

Thank you as well for posting, and wishing me the best in the new year, I wish you the same.

Take care and stay warm in the snow!

Thanks for the Christmas Greeting and the apology - half hearted as it was.
Just to set the record straight once and for all, I DID order a kit for 1969-1979. Thats because I was installing it on a 1972 pan. The parts I received were for a Pre-69 and DID NOT FIT.  I had to return them postage prepaid before Airkewld would send the parts that I had correctly ordered initially.
The missing parts came in two or three separate orders over the space of many weeks.  In fact, as previously stated, I never did receive everything as ordered and paid for but gave up trying.
As for the bounced cheque, my turn to issue a most sincere apology. Technically, what happened was that when I took it to the bank, they refused to cash it - it was non-negotiable due to being stale dated. I guess I could have mailed it back and asked for a new one but, as previously stated, I wanted nothing further to do with this company.
In my last post I said that Airkewld refuses to accept responsibility for their mistakes.  It seems that if they can't provide better customer service, maybe they need to take a look at their operation - perhaps hire someone who knows a little bit about conducting decent mail order. I deal with US and international suppliers all the time and have never had the kind of problems I had with Airkewld.
BTW, 8-10 air ride kits a day?  Wow! can't wait to see all those slammed cars.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year's and all the best to my friends in the VW community.

It was not half hearted, It is always sincere.

When I looked at your order it said 66-68, that is what i sent. If it was a glitch like I stated to you when you called and said you got the wrong kit, so be it, and I apologized. the facts that i had was it was a 66-68. if it is different, sent it back and I would resend it on my dime the exchanged parts. That is what happened.

Believe me bro, I get pictures every day of the cars that have air ride on them, check out Volksworld, Super VW, every issue has 3-5 cars on air. Its incredible. Once again, happy holidays and take care.

....the costumers ALWAYS right....
that's old logic that looks good on paper but is rarely true.

the trick is to try and do whatever you can within your power to please that person that has purchased your product or used your business. i think pete (airkewld) has handled this situation with honesty, integrity and patience (especially after everyone found their soapbox).

sometimes people are wrong (customers and business owners). you have to do what you can to right the wrong and move on.

imho, pete has done that....and if i wanted to bag my bug.....i'd go to airkewld for product and advice.

I appreciate that guys. If you met me, you would understand what I am all about. I do care about each car looking its best, that is why I have been producing parts that can achieve those looks. I have made plans to go to the Great Canadian show with Franklin fro His shop in Wa. and Paul Iozzio who did the Overhaulin build with us. We plan to come out there and shake your guys hands and check out what the Canadian VW scene is all about.

By the way, Stephen, your car looks great in the new Hot VW's. Congrats on the picture.

Take it easy guys and try to enjoy 2008!
