Type 3 Tranny In A Bus

I was wondering why a type 3 tranny is used for a straight axle conversion in a bus.  I want to get rid of the reduction boxes in my double cab (I guess to go faster on the hwy) and have access to a T3 tranny So why not use a type one or later bus.

T III (and 68 Bug only) transmissions have the long axles that are not available on the other models. The gearing is also good. I'm pretty sure you could use a short swingaxle tranny (off earlier bugs) but you would have to custom fab new spring plates.

I guess also because type 3's have the set screw for the shift rod from under the car like the bus , although you could  also just swap your bus nose cone and hockey stick

its not actually the whole tranny that you need its the axles, the straight axle conversion kit will come with extended axle tubes and new springplates that will bolt up to the beetle style axle tubes. the long axles that came out of type 3's and 68 and later swingaxle beetles are the only ones long enough to do the job.
