4-bolt Centerlines
« on: February 23, 2007, 07:58:05 PM »
I'm looking at buying a pair of 5.5\" 4-bolt Centreline aluminum wheels with 4\" backspace for:

'68 Beetle
SAW short axles
stock 4 x 130 drums (snout machined for short axles)
6\" x 26\" M&H slicks

Has anyone run this combo on a late Beetle?

Thanks!

jim martin runs 4 bolt centerlines w/ m&h dot slicks on the back and 145's on the front. 68 chassis. not sure if he has short or long axles, and i dont know the width or backspacing of his wheels.

hopefully he'll chime in.

yes  i run the exact combo you are thinking about, the backspacing will be the same as mine as there was no other options in a 5.5\" centerline rim.
as far as having 5.5\" rims on the frt i cannot help you as mine are the 3.5\" .
and the use of a 3.5\" rim may require narrowing the beam ,but if i remember they do clear.
centerlines are light and still one of the coolest racing rims made.
since they are a real 2 piece racing rim that is rivited together they were all expected to use a tube.
but for street/track use it adds weight so the centre sealing can be easily modified to allow tubless use.
my biggest concern was mounting to the car .there are a few ways to do it and mine is possibley the most positive .
this phot shows the studs and collar i made.

if you are seriously going to buy them get in touch with me and i will cover the different mounting methods.

Thanks Jim,

Your info was exactly what I was looking for!  I remember seeing your '68 at the DVKK Strip Show at Mission in August and will get ahold of you for details, once I sort out which way I'm going for wheels.

I'm trying to decide between 4-bolt Erco's, Centerlines or Sprintstars with M&H DOT's or slicks.

Neil.
