16" Porsche Fuchs Fitment Question
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:51:06 AM »
I'm looking to maybe run 16\" porsche fuchs under stock oval fenders.  Front suspension so far is a 3\" narrowed beam (adjustable), 2.5\" dropped spindles.  The rear is stock.  Disc brakes in 5x130 in all corners.

What offset should I look for?  will 16x6\" & 16x7\" work well?

would a 205/40 or 45/16 in the front and a 205/45 or 50/16 in the rear work?

I remember a beige 1967 beetle with a 1776 engine running fully polished 16\" fuchs all around on his car (Jason Campbell I think was his name).  Also, there was a blue Oval window at the GCVWS this year running 16\" fuchs.

EDIT:

I found these pictures:

Thanks, Stephan

If you have early Beetle short axles, use 7x16s.  6s will be tucked too far in and look off.

I do not recommend the severe tucking ala GFK cars for the front if you intend to actually drive the car.  That means you are better off with a 2\" beam than the 3\".  The reason is that with a severe tuck, you can't steer around corners.
My car has a 3.75\" beam and if I was to do it again, I would do 2.5\".  That's with 7s on the front.  6s require less beam chop.

I agree with you Bruce.  I'm not into the 4\"+ narrowed beams, its just plain stupid.  But I wanted to tuck the wheels under my fenders & Brad is almost done the beam.

so with a 3\" beam I could get away with 7's all around?

These are just ideas floating around in my head.  I need to get the brakes all freshened up, so I don't know which way I'm going to go (to stay wide 5 or to go with 5x130).

And yes, I will actually drive the car 7 days a week during the spring, summer, and fall.

It probably had a really good turning circle, right Tom?

Compared to most wheels you would install on a VW, a 6\" Fuchs has quite a large offset, so you don't need a majorly chopped beam to fit.

Fuchs offsets:

Width___Offset

4.5_____42mm
5.5_____42mm
6______36mm
7______23.3mm
8______10.6mm

Yup, turned great.

I don't use all that fancy offset crud, just give me the back spacing and width and I know if a rim fits.

What size Fuchs does Alan Uyeno run on his '65?
For some reason, I'm thinking 16\".

Alan has 7x16s on the rear with 225/50s with short axle swing and stock 4 bolt drums.  For drag use, he needs a thin spacer when he uses his 6x15s with slicks.

On the front he has 6x15s with 185x55s for street use, and chopped 6x15s (down to 4

i have a 3\" narrowed beam CB wide 5 disk brake kit with drop spindles (not porsche bolt pattern)
rears are short axle with type three drums.
with having to add adapters will i still be able to make a set of these fit my 55?
not as tucked as this car but i like this

Thats a possible color my car will be! Agave Green, VERY nice.

Russ,

With 4.5's in the front and 5.5's or 6's in the rear you should be fine even with adaptors.  CIP sells the 4.5 replicas (which look VERY similar to the real 4.5's except they are only $190 CDN each and well, they aren't real).  You should beable to fit in 205's in the rear with adaptors.

Thanks for that info Bruce.  The car has short axles on it.

If you have stock wide 5 drums up to 57 on early short axle swing, then 6\" Fuchs do fit with adaptors.

If you used your CB disc kit and an adaptor, 4

this is what is currently set up for me.
3\" narrowed beam K&L
2\" drop spindles
CB wide five disk brakes.
at this point i don't want to start changing things back to stock beams and buying other parts.
but the consenses is that 4-1/2's will fit up front with the adapters?
