Udo Becker lifters
« on: July 24, 2011, 03:40:57 PM »
I've had a set of Udo Becker lifters in my 2332 cc for a couple years.

Ran the Web 86C for a year, then switched to the Web 226 (between FK46 and 47).  Anyway, I switched back to the 86C last week and during disassembly I noticed that some of the lifters are pitted just a bit, much like stock lifters.  Some also have a silvery sheen to the contact area, while others look good as new.  The lifters still have the radiused crown, so I'm going to try them for a while longer with the 86C.  Also, the lifter bores are still tight with no damage visible.  Anyway, this is my first set of Beckers, so I'm not sure what the wearing will look like over time.

I will be trying one more camshaft later this summer, so I'll check the lifter wear again in a few weeks.

Has anyone, else seen this?

Update:  so here's a couple photos of the Udo Becker lifters as of today.  I'm swapping camshafts again, so trying to decide whether to re-use these lifters since they are tool steel and supposedly reusable.  Anyone else seen this on their UB lifters?

Those are now garbage! I haven't seen any pic's of the Udo lifters after a few thousand miles but they sure look like the Scat ones when they fall apart.

If you can find a set of Schubeck lifters they should last forever.

Try sending Alan a PM, He has sold a lot of these and may have seen others fall apart like that but for the most part I think they have had a good history.

Thanks, Geoff, I was leaning towards not using them again.  I have some Bugpack racing lifters, that I'll try with my next cam.

I sent Udo a PM and he indicated that he had one bad batch that were incorrectly heat treated, and he will send me a replacement set once he has them back in stock.  Can't beat that for service!

Thats good news! I'd hate to think all those Udo lifters were bad like those. Great service!
