'58 Bug in Vic
« on: February 12, 2011, 03:45:01 PM »
Hey, has anyone gone to see this car? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=945068 It's been up on various sites for a few months now, and the dude has dropped his price from around $6000 to $4000, just wondering if there's a reason for that, like the new paint hiding a bunch of bondo or something...I'd love to get it when I have a bit more cash.

dont buy that car, there is tons of cheap Oval 57 on samba, even some 56 ragtop for just a bit more...
there is a finished 1954 for 6000 with a beautiful WCC interior from Lenny Copps, brand new paint, rubbers , bumpers! sick!

IMO you can get more value on resale for oval...

but if you need someone to see it fr you, i can help, i am in duncan.
cheers

Yeah, but I kinda like the big window, you can see the nutters coming better :o.  No worries mate, I'm just ogling it from afar until I can scrape together the dough to give him a good offer.

looks decent at a glance, up close will tell the real story. Way better off to have had someone spend more than the asking price for something you can drive now... unless a project is what you're looking for. A buy off the Samba is wonderful is theory, until you have to get to it to see it, make sure the paperwork is all in order, get it back across the border, vehicle inspections etc... I've got a quite a distance in past to see a rust bucket... but couldn't justify bringing it home. One of those Arizona, southern california cars would be worth the effort for the non rust factor.
The first small, big window cars have a nice look!
