Sugestions for PNW SpringMeet 2011

Suggestions for PNW SpringMeet

www.pnwspringmeet.com
April 3rd

mike@pnwspringmeet.com

setup time is 8-10am
open to public is 10am to 3pm

Registration is now open

HI all .... I'm sure I've meet many of you over the years either through SpringMeet , BugOut or GC weekend. I'm a member of many northwest Vw clubs and been involved one way or another in events for over 10 years .

I've been out of the air scene for a while building my family and since one of my favorite shows and swap meets has went defunked. I've spoken to the elders at NWVWC about bringing this back  and they just don’t have ability to make it happen. I’d like to bring this event back to life but without your help and suggestions it just might not happen.

Have you been to springmeet in the past down in the states ?
Remember cool crisp spring mornings , PNW rain ,aisles of swap , some of the best winter project cars indoors ?

I want to make it how it was ten years ago, relaxed , fun and an overall great time. NO flashy stuff here , great people , great cars and good old parts.
I’m targeting April and I want to flush ideas with forums and clubs before I get to ahead of myself. I have a location of 85,000sqft indoor  to hold the event that should make 70+ swap spaces , 30-40 cars for nice show , and room for everyone.

what suggestions or requests would like to see , this your chance to have your voice heard. I know most of you are bit far away so I want to know what would insure you coming to participate.

I used to Drive up from Portland and show. The location was good till the back lot was being used which was muddy and small. Swap was alway good, car show got smaller and smaller each year. The front parking lot always had a good amount of nice cars in it. It would be nice to have VW parking in a area close to the showing area, similar to what Woodburn does.

I would go up for it.

There was always a large crew from Vancouver that would go every year, I'd say 50-60 people at least. Everyone here misses this event and i'm sure we would all support you and it if it can be brought back.

well starting to see alot of feedback and I've love to hear what everyone has to say .

So far I found out that the XXX Rootbeer meet for NWVWC is march 20th , so I think just a few weeks after would be a good timeing.

Another question .
Had a few folks mail me about camping at the new location, I talked with them today and they are looking into it, I think it wont be an issue . So maybe midnight swap sales pre event with big bonfire . we"ll see

Please post some comments , more feed back the better .

This is great and I am happy to help out if I can , The only concern I have so far is the the Capital City spring Fling is in April, which will be in its 3rd year and seems to draw a good crowd. There are also a couple of out of state events happening as well that are well attended by VW folks from up here in the NW

a few folks have asked about camping , I'm getting that cleared now , far as I can see I dont this it will be a issue, and location would be an epic camp.

Please continue with feedback , since the Capital City spring Fling is in Oly I'm scarping that location I have there and using for another event.

I believe the show was also held on the 1st. weekend of April,  But I've spoken to a couple peeps that are down in that area , Its sounding like the Cap. City spring fling may not happen this year.  A buddy of mine is contacting the organizer to get more info. However the Portland Swap meet is always on the 1st weekend of April and that draws a lot of car people to Oregon that weekend.

Where are you planning on having the show at ?

Hope I am not coming off a a nay sayer , just throwing out all for consideration.

How's the hotel situation in that area? It's near Snoqualmie?

That is actually super close to me , Like maybe 15 min. . So I can tell you that there are a couple of descent hotels in Issaquah that are right off of I-90.

I'd hate to interfere with that , but this is more a swapmeet and classic car show, this should be a good afternoon seeing the greasy parts and seeing some classic great cars and busses.

Anyone else heading down? I am driving my car down on Sat afternoon. Anyone else leaving around then? Up for cruising together? Does anyone have hotels booked? Looking for a hotel close to the show. Let me know.

I'm heading down sat afternoon as well. There's a sick reggae band called Katchafire playing at the snoqualmie casino that night, so it's gonna make for a great weekend!

We'll be staying at the north bend motel in, uh, north bend. Let's get a Cruise goin!

Did you make reservations at the North Bend Motel or are just going to wing it? Have you stayed there before? I read a few reveiws on the local motels on the show website, not great. I dont really care what a place looks like as long as the shower is hot, the roof dont leak and the bed sheets are clean, but when I start reading complaints of ants in the rooms and the bed, well, that crosses a line for me. On the other hand, I dont want to stay at a $230/night couples retreat that is listed at the top of the page either. Maybe I will take a chance with the cheep place and bring a sleeping bag incase I have to sleep in the tub. LOL.
