Title: Hi Torque Starter Motor
Post by: kombination on January 26, 2004, 12:51:13 PM
I've been searching around for a new starter motor for my bus.  I keep seeing these Hi-Torque motors for sale, and one dealer said that they're just the starters from automatic bugs.  Does anyone know if that's the case?

Thanks,

Ben

A auto starter is a higher torque starter but the real High Torque starters are a reduction drive, we have them in stock.

I may have an auto starter kickin around collecting dust if you in the market - The purpose built high rev's are really nice in my opinion.

Here's some numbers:

Standard: SR15 is 180ft-lbs
Autostick: SR17 is 250ft-lbs
IMI High Torque is 534ft-lbs

For most applications a Autostick SR17 is pelent. But if you have no starter the IMI High Torque is not alot more $$$ and really spins the engine.

Hey guys, In Canadian dollars the IMI is $251.95 I instaled one in my car last spring and it definatly cranks hard! Like Glenn said, most will get by with the auto stick but the IMI is a little stronger.

Round number off the top of my hear for the starters are $100 for a SR15, $140 for as SR17 and $180 for a IMI.

I went with the IMI just for the hell of it. And i like the gear drive sound it makes :)

The IMI is nice and compact as well compared to a Auto one Those prices are US though, after exchange duty and all that it would be about the same as here.
