Title: axle bearings or wheel bearings?
Post by: isaac on October 16, 2011, 09:21:14 PM
1971 VW Beattle IRS - when I have it jacked up in the air, when I grab the rear tire (both sides) I can wiggle the wheel left and right and up and down a little.  What do I need to replace?  The axle bearing kit or the wheel bearing kit?  I'm trying to order off of CPi tonight - not sure what to order - please help!  Mike

Like Brian said check the wheel bolts. Always start with the simplest possibilities. Also CIP sells the Bug Me videos, they are very good and video #4 is brake servicing and shows the wheel bearing being serviced, Video #5 shows how to service the cv joints and I believe the axle bearing too. These videos are all good as they carefully explain and show how to do a tremendous number of processes to keep your bug on the road.
