i score a 010 a while back, but i haven't ran it yet cause i need points and condensor. are they really that much better than a 009?

yes , and if you have the chinese made 009 then there way better

I used to use a German 009, then I found an 010.  Before I took out the 009, I threw the timing light on it.  The advance started around 1100-1200, then was all-in by 2400-2500.
With the 010, it started at the same point, and finished the same too.  Total advance was the same.  The net effect on driveability was zero.
Way back in the 60s, Bosch sold the 010 as a universal replacement for VWs.  The 009 is simply a newer aluminum replacement for the 010.  It was intended to be the same.
The big difference is when you have a newer 009, especially a non-Bosch China special.
