Title: 71 bus shift rod bushing replacement
Post by: daninvan on July 01, 2015, 01:23:49 AM
hi all,

I've read that to replace the bushings on the rear shift rod in my bus I need to drop the engine and transmission, however I have seen in 1 other forum that I can do it without pulling the transmission and motor out.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks for looking all!

Dan

you can replace the the bushing without pulling the tranny. But there is no way to pull the whole rod out.  It is to long to pull to the front.  And it has plastic bushings in the tube that only allows you to pull out to the rear.    The bushing will be probably tight on the rod where it joins and would be easier to take off.  Even when I took mine out I still had to beat it off with a hammer to remove it ...it was so tight on there.
