what are the widest tires that will fit on a stock bug rim??
without rubbing... and the car may end up slightly lowered.
so they will still need to fit under the stock fenders..

thanx

the tires are for the back as i already have some stock 165sr15's on the front.  the rims are 5.5\" and I'd like to go a little wider on the rear.

thanx

205/65's will sit and tuck nicely on a lowered vw. it is a popular choice for the gfk rides (the german folks). nice and meaty but not to wide of a side wall. check out some feature cars in the mags and you'll get a good idea of how different size tires look on different cars.

I'm not a DVKK guy BUT.....

I had mine totally hammered (70 with a swingaxle) in the back to the point where I couldn't even fit my shoe under the stock tailpipes and it was riding on the cut-in-half bump stops (NOT recommended) but I had 5.5\" chromies with 205/60's on 'em. They didn't rub at all but it didn't take long to burn out the side-wall! I switched to 195/50's after that for a stiffer side-wall and never had a problem after i lifted it back up a notch. Almost all of the bugs I have ever drove/owned used 195's on the back at one point. No good for top speed unless you have the right gears though.

As for the front - narrow 3\" w/adjusters and drop spindles with 5.5\" chromies with 195/50's fit absolutely perfect! No rub. No fuss. No turning radius! Buy a skid plate!

below is the actual car.
As you can see there's plenty of room in the back for a taller tire.

Thanks... :D
** WAS ** a good **LOOKING** beetle. Good from far but far from good.
Rockers, quarters, pan and heater channels were all pooched.
I more or less did a spray and sell but did a nice job and took my time without completely restoring it.
I ended up only selling it for 3 grand as it is in that photo but like i said it was rusty in a big way.
Did a lot of the body/paint/install myself but not those cool mirror mounts on top of the doors.
The motor was pooched and the tranny was going. It was only a matter of time till it completely fell apart.

If you think that one looks good you should see the 70 I had done when I was in high school.
THAT was a nice car. I'll see if I have any pic's of it hangin around.

Thanks again for the compliment.

Hopefully one day soon when I sell my damned Saturn I can finally finish my 67-wannabe 68 sunroof.

depending on if you have long and short axles will make a difference as well.  offset of the wheels you will be using might help us aswell.

run a 205/65 or 205/70 R15.  I did on my oval with long axles and I didn't have any problems.

this was on the \"empi\" 5 spoke wheel 5.5\" width
