New Starter Still No Juice
« on: June 24, 2004, 11:16:20 PM »
Ok,
I bought a new starter because ever since I bought my 66 last Aug I've had to push it on and off.

Trouble--

1. turn key one notch- dashlight come on
2. turn key to start----  NOTHING
3. reach in through radio hole pull bottom red wire off and touch with top red wire (while turning key) and it starts (only once or twice then that won't work anymore.
arc starter won't work unless it is in gear and jerks the car a bit then key works (sometime) or wire trick works (Sometime)

I decided it seemed like a soleniod so bought a new starter from CIP.
--sorry geoff/Jim free shipping---
WEll well well..STILL GOTTA PUSH....

I bought a new battery today just incase it was a dead cell..  NOPE still pushing....

I didn't bench test the bosch starter from CIP.  Could it be bad???
Do I have a bad ground.  My next step is to put new wire from starter to ignition temperarly to see if mine is bad.

Hey does the brass bushing do anything other than hole the armature in place?

Sounds kinda like a short to me. I would run the new wire first.
