Title: Widening Steelies
Post by: kirin on September 24, 2004, 03:36:42 AM
Hey guys.
I have a 62 beetle that is lowered with an adjustible beam. I want to know first off. I want to have wider tires and rims on my car. So I'm wondering how much should I get my stock steel wheels widened. I'm also wondering how wide can I physically go in the front of my car.. I will probably be using finally a relatively low(Not super super rubber band tire) profile tires. Anyways let me know. Whats the widest practical width I can widen my tires to be...

Heya,
I've asked this question in the past! (Type 2 --though!?)

The only response if any I got, was \"GREENS AUTOMITIVE'--Here is the link.

I wonder where Alan U got his wheels narrowed? I would think widening would be easier. I'm going to give these guys a call or email them when i get back..

i'm pretty sure alan got his wheels narrowed at greens. i've asked around and they seem to come highly recommended.

i'd widen the backs to 6\" and the fronts to 5\". 205/60's on the back (meaty and the sidewall isnt too tall) and 185/60's on the front (wide enough for traction and low profile-ish).

i would think that widening would be more expensive because you need an extra set of wheels for \"donors\" and you have to make twice the amount of cuts.

I haven't sorted all the bugs out and I need to raise my car since I have NO suspension travel..
Its a tough call for me.. I really like the none vented steely look and I don't want a wheel that doesn't look stock..
hmmm.

Me thinks 6 1/2 inch wide rear rims is just a bit to extreme for my 1600dp powered beastie.... Right now I'm rolling on 4.5's.. but thank for the offer though.

I have a set of two widened steel big-five pattern wheels if anyone's interested. In Bellingham of course... They are painted with a pair of 4.5's to match. Let e go cheap!
