Title: 1952 JC Higgins Bike
Post by: Geoff on December 25, 2010, 02:07:32 PM
Just thought i'd post a few pic's of the 52 JC Higging I restored for my Girlfriends Christmas.
Bought it while at the Sacramento Bugiramma swap in less than good condithion.

Here it is as found.
It has the wrong seat and bars but most of it's there including the skip tooth cranks and sprocket.

A few months later, powdercoated by Russ at Francis Andrew, Chromed by Specialty plating (not finished in these pic's but ya get the idea) Found some NOS green metal flake grips to match.

what's a "skip tooth crank and sprocket"?

The Skiptooth design is the orig style chain and sprockets from 30's-50's. They had a large spread on the teeth and it would skip one link before engaging the next tooth. see pic below.

about ten years ago on the old property i had a bunch of those and some shwinn's and a couple of Raliegh choppers, make some bike guys really happy when we sold em!(i kept one Raliegh chopper, purple, with 3 speed center shifter) very cool geoff!
