I tried the general membership and had no response so here it goes:

What should I you use to polish them or clean them?


How about hardware (lug-nuts/bolts etc.)

Do I have to get special ones?

You need special dished bolts, I found them on ebay. The originals are about $100-200 for a full set, the other chrome ones were about $45. I tried to clean them with a special wheel rubbing compound, which cleaned them nicely but did not do anything to the actual shine of the wheels as they look to have a clear coat on them. To polish, I expect you'd have to strip that finish off and go from there!

it's a metal polish available at NAPA, etc.

Best polish out there. Wouldn't use it if they are clear-coated.

I believe those would have been anodized originally.  They would need to be chemically stripped .

To mount those wheels you have 2 options. Get the original lugs. Double check the rear brake drums because I think they will be too long and they interfere with the brakes inside the drum. Or you can go press in studs and buy some nice shiny wheel lugs from LanD.

I was thinking of installing type three brakes (which i have, brand new) on the rear but i don't have the place to do that so I may have to find someone  and pay for it. That would be the the time to do the press studs and buy some nice shiny wheel lugs and center caps from LanD . In the mean time i may just get a set of  original lugs and cut them as needed.

I just picked up a set of 2L Fuchs too, that need complete refinishing. They were painted and cleared, so my course of action is going to be: strip the paint & clear coat, then sand using fine sandpaper to remove the scratches (600, 1000, 1500 grit), glass bead blast the recesses, then polish the petals and rim lip with tripoli, a buff wheel and lots of elbow grease.

If you are using drop spindles check for clearance of the lower ball joints to the wheel. I found this thread on the Samba you might want to read:

hey Eggy!! to strip the anodizing off a fuch you can ues old fashioned oven cleaner
be damn sure to clean thouroughly afterward
then sand the imperfections/curbage out with a 360 grit
then a 500 grit
then 800, 1200, 2000
then buff it out on a wheel with  liquid polish compound
that will keep you bizzy for a good while
tape off front and prep and paint backside
or if you are nuts polish the back too
