Over riders or bumperettes were dealer installed or aftermarket, not available as an option from Germany, they were added here after it got off the boat. There was a couple brands/styles sold by dealers, some were supplied to them by VWOC or VWOA as an upsell kit through thier local accessory program, some were offered by wholesale jobbers, others were sold by JC Whitney and local FLAPS and installed by owners later.
Everyone got into the game except the factory it seems, the only bumper embelishment offered by VW as an M coded option was the aluminum/rubber trim strips, and that only came on the type 24 deluxe along with the rest of the bling package.
