Fuel tank breather?
« on: May 17, 2019, 10:46:45 PM »
I am wondering if I need a vent/breather line for my fuel tank.  It's an early style tank in the front of a buggy, and my old fuel sending unit had a vent with a fuel line running out, but my new fuel sending unit doesn't have a vent.  There is no other vent for the tank, does it need one?  The filler neck was shortened so the gas cap sits close to the tank and no vent there.
Thanks

Is the cap vented?

VW caps prior to 72 are all vented.

Mid 70 for buses (depending on M codes), and some caps interchange.

How about a pic of your cap?

No it doesn't look like it has a vent. It looks like an aftermarket chrome gas cap.
I will just put a vent in the sending unit like the old one had, just to play it safe.
